What’s it all about…

It's about making stuff, making do with the stuff you already have, and making informed decisions about the stuff that affects the planet, your life, and your health. The topics covered fall into the following categories: Shelter, Food, Clothing, Water/Energy, Transportation and Arts/Entertainment. The posts are about what is interesting to me at the moment, but feel free to propose a topic or question for future posts in the "What's On Your Mind?" page.

Where Has The Time Gone?

Yes, I’m still here – alive and somewhat well.  Almost six months to the day.  I can’t believe I’ve neglected the blog for so long.  So to bring everyone up to speed here is what happened in the last 180 days or so:

1. Got scared of living from one freelance gig to another, so I took the first job I was offered after looking for a couple of weeks.  BIG MISTAKE!  Not a good fit for either of us.

2. Quit ill-fitting job in an uncertain economy, promptly landed a brand new design client, and landed an ongoing website maintenance gig.

3. Moved twice!  Now settled in very nice little house with yard and heat (very important since this was what caused me initially to seek new housing).

4. Sent my cat to “camp,” while I lived at a friend’s until permanent (heated) housing could be found.

5. Cat came home when permanent (heated) housing was found, and brought a dog with him.

6. Finished my design gig, which paid for the second move, a new stove and many, many gallons of paint to spruce up permanent (heated) little house.

7. Got gout THREE times.  And, no, I’m not a 17th century corrupt, meat-eating, wine-swilling governor of Tortuga looking to oust pirates from the Caribbean (and take their loot for myself).  I’m a young, healthy, non-alcohol drinking, vegetarian woman in the 21st century, who apparently must cut tofu, mushrooms and asparagus out of her diet, drink more water, and take Vitamin C supplements daily.

8. I knitted A LOT!  Finished some things (hats and mitts), but still working on others (shawls, stoles, scarves, socks).

9. Participated in a spin-in, frolicked with all things fibery, and helped out during sheep shearing at a friend’s farm.

10. And have felt totally gobsmacked all 180 or so days.

And my family thinks I’m exhausting to live with:
